Not in Canada: Skype App for iPhone

skype-canada-noshowFor those who do not know Skype, it’s a service owned by eBay and allows you to send and receive calls and message other Skype users for free using a Wi-Fi connection.

Tomorrow they’ll be releasing an new and free iPhone App (via the Apple AppStore) and when it officially launches, us Canadians will not share the joy and be able to use  this as we are the only country left out of the party!

According to Chaim Haas, a public relations rep for Skype, reason is because of a patent issue related to Skype, not an Apple related issue.

(However, one way around this is to create a US iTunes App Store account.)

    1. hmm seriously, a patent issue? I bet it is more a Rogers issue with them not wanting to lose revenue on free voip calls. Of course they would never admit to this, thus the ‘patent’ issue.

    2. TRUE SO TRUE!!! I’m so sick of Rogers and their bs and I’m sure many others are. If they found out they could have a cell that had free calling, everyone would be willing to drop Rogers like a hot potato. I personally would pay out my three year contract to not have to deal with them anymore hehe. I really hope we get Skype phone in Canada soon!!!
