You’ll soon be able to use Google Drive to backup your WhatsApp data

Google and WhatsApp today announced a partnership that will see users of the popular chat app have the option to upload their entire WhatsApp history to Google Drive. Everything from one’s chat history to their voice messages, photos and video can be backed up using Google’s storage platform. What’s more, users will be able to use the backup to move their data to a new installation of WhatsApp.

Unfortunately, WhatsApp users that live in Canada may have to wait a while before they gain access to the feature. Google and WhatsApp say they plan to rollout the feature gradually. With more than 900 million active WhatsApp — many of them on Android — it will likely take several months before everyone can backup their data on Drive.
