Instagram opens Android beta program, says “We’re listening”

Instagram, like Facebook, Twitter and many other big brands, is directly engaging with early adopters in an attempt to lead the direction of its Android app to a better place. Often skewered for its poor treatment of images on Android compared to iOS, Instagram appears to be getting out ahead of the criticism with a new beta program.

Right now, the versions are the same, so there’s no telling what the company has in store. Access is granted through a Google Group, and then triggered by opting into the beta itself through Google Play. Once active, the beta APK will supersede the regular version on the Play Store.

The company says, “We’re listening. Help us build a better app by sharing your experience through the app report flow.” Hopefully they will, and improve the Android app in the process.
