CIBC adds Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One compatibility to Mobile Payment app

CIBC has been working with Rogers to bring its NFC-based suretap mobile payment technology to more devices, and the bank is adding two more to the list.

CIBC partnered with Rogers in 2012 to allow its credit card holders to make payments at any point-of-sale around the country; most terminals used in retail stores across Canada are compatible. Due to the reliance on NFC, compatible devices have been slow coming: the app launched with support for Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and a number of BlackBerry 7 devices  before adding Z10, Q10 and LG Optimus G support.

The app now supports the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One, though CIBC customers will still need a secure SIM card, which may be a separate purchase from Rogers if it didn’t come with your device.

Bell and RBC are working together on an upcoming mobile payment system, which soft launched last week.

Have you used CIBC’s Mobile Payment app with a compatible Rogers device?
