Freedom Mobile is expanding the availability of its 5G+ network, allowing all customers to access it at no additional cost.
All of the carrier’s plans now include 5G+ access.
According to details the carrier shared with MobileSyrup, all Freedom customers with a compatible device and SIM card will be able to access the company’s 5G+ network while in a 5G+ coverage area.
The carrier expects roughly 400,000 customers will receive notifications that they can access Freedom’s 5G+ network.
Further, Freedom says it’s expanding its 5G and 5G+ network footprint across Ontario, Alberta, and B.C. The expansion brings the 5G and 5G+ networks to over 500,000 additional Canadians.
According to the carrier, recent expansions brought 5G and 5G+ to “Kingston, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Welland, Waterloo and Barrie in Ontario; Airdrie, Beaumont and Fort Saskatchewan in Alberta; and Delta, Langley, North Vancouver, Port Moody and Coquitlam in British Columbia.”
Customers can use Freedom’s website to check coverage areas to see where 5G+ is available.
Freedom launched 5G+ early in 2025, and in April 2025 it increased 5G speeds in several regions. When Freedom launched 5G+, it said its network combined 3,500MHz and 3,800MHz spectrum, along with other frequency ranges, to offer a “more robust and complete wireless network experience.”
Further, Freedom said the theoretical peak speed for its 5G network is 900Mbps, though most customers won’t actually see speeds that high due to a variety of factors.
Regardless, it’s great to see Freedom improving its network in more areas. Along with the 5G improvements, Freedom also recently launched back-to-school deals and an ad campaign that puts the spotlight on the Big Three carriers and their attempts to bypass the CRTC’s ban on junk fees.
