Google launches redesigned Workspace app icons

Do you like the new look?

Google is rolling out its new, redesigned app icons for all users.

The new design, spotted last month, moves away from the major app icon rule Google has followed in the past: icons must use all four company colours. Rather, the new icons stick with fewer colours, more gradients, and a more vibrant look.

As Android Authority pointed out, user reactions to the new icons are inherently mixed. While many dislike the new icon designs, some are happy that the tech giant is moving away from the long-used old icons.

Honestly, I don’t mind the looks of the new icons. I agree with the general public that, while most of them aren’t great, there are a few that are big improvements over everything else.

Right now, the new app icons are showing up in the Google apps grid, but they aren’t showing up everywhere yet. Even on the company’s own Workspace app page, the old icons still appear. However, some of Google’s apps, like Google Slides, have already updated their app icons.

This new update rolls out ahead of Google I/O (conveniently sporting the new gradients), which takes place May 19 and 20.
