Disney will roll out vertical video content on Disney+ later this year.
The company made the announcement at CES 2026 at its Tech + Data Showcase. While release timing or international rollout plans weren’t mentioned, Disney did tell Deadline that “everything’s on the table” in terms of the video format. This means that it could be everything from simple clips or trailers for Disney titles to full-on original programming.
The company added that it’s targeting Gen Z and Gen Alpha users, specifically, given that they’re the audiences most likely to engage with this sort of YouTube Shorts-esque vertical video. Disney also said it aims “to evolve the experience over time.”
Given that there’s all kinds of digital media nowadays fighting for your time, it certainly makes sense that Disney would want to invest in shorter video content. That said, it remains to be seen exactly how curated these vertical videos will be. After all, Disney just signed a big licensing deal with OpenAI’s Sora to eventually allow users to create their own AI-generated videos. It’s easy to imagine, then, how Disney could incorporate this slop into the vertical video feed.
