After announcing that Gemini Live would come to all Android phones for free in mid-September Google has finally finished rolling it out. ow all Android users can talk to the company’s advanced chatbot.
Before this announcement, the chatbot was limited to people who paid $27 per month or got Gemini Advanced for free with a Chromebook Plus or Pixel 9 Pro phone.
Live is now available for all Gemini users in English on the Android app. We can’t wait for you to try it. https://t.co/jev4pnuZJ0

This chatbot is more for asking questions and bouncing around ideas. You can’t use it to start timers, control smart home stuff or other things you might typically use Google Assistant or the regular version of Gemini for. That being said, the regular version of Gemini has been updated quite a bit over the summer and it can now do pretty much everything Google Assistant could do plus more, so it’s safe now to switch over to Gemini for most people who were still holding onto Google Assistant.
In my time testing the Pixel 9, I found Gemini Live to be really cool, and the voice sounded awesome. However, I found it pretty surface-level, and since you can only talk to it, it’s hard to dive deeper and figure out where the information it’s giving you is coming from.
To set up Gemini Live, you can download the Gemini app and then tap on the small waveform icon in the bottom right corner to start chatting.
