While Google is a leader in software support with guaranteed updates to newer Pixel phones for seven years, the company’s smartwatch line is still slated for a mediocre three years of updates.
Spotted by 9to5Google, Google’s support page detailing software updates for Pixel Watch confirms the Watch 3 will only get updates until October 2027, which is three years from now. Notably, the Pixel Watch 3 will still get updates until October despite the earlier launch, unlike the Pixel 9 series which are all set to receive updates until August.
Also of note is that Google doesn’t distinguish between Android version updates and software updates for the Pixel Watch like it does with its phones. Pixel Watches are set to receive “guaranteed software updates” until the listed date.
Regardless, it’s a bummer to see the Pixel Watch 3 getting shafted on software updates like this. Even an extra year of support would be a nice improvement and would put the Pixel Watch in line with Apple’s smartwatches. Coupled with the Pixel Watch 3 continuing the trend of irrepairability, the smartwatch seems like a poor choice for those wanting some longevity out of their gadgets.
