Google has announced the launch of a brand new beta channel for Android WebView that will allow developers to test the newest versions of WebView as well as provide feedback.
If you’re an Android user, you’ve probably encountered WebView in some way, shape or form. Android WebView is what allows Android to load HTML content within an application, without opening up a separate browser app, thanks to the WebKit rendering engine.
Up until today, Android WebView was updated along with the Android OS. With Lollipop, Google is able to update WebView separately, which means it can fix bugs and add new web platform APIs and updates from Chromium without issuing an update for the Android platform.
To become a beta tester, join the WebView Beta Channel community on Google+. This will allow you to join the beta channel and install the beta version of the WebView from the Play Store.
