Motorola files FCC documents for 6-inch mystery device

We’re less than 10 days away from the rumoured unveiling of Google’s newest Nexus smartphone, the Nexus 6, and it looks like the device may have just made its debut with the FCC.

Motorola has filed documents with the US regulatory board for the certification of a handset under the FCC ID ‘IHDT56PK2.’ This device is described as a 6-inch multi-mode device with WiFi 802.11/a/b/g/n/ac as well as support for LTE bands 2, 4, 5, and 17, which includes Rogers, Bell, and TELUS.

Unfortunately for us, Motorola’s filing also included a letter of confidentiality requesting that the parts list, schematic diagrams, block diagrams, and transmitter characteristics be kept permanently confidential. It’s also requesting temporary confidentiality for the user manual as well as test photographs.

“Motorola considers that the information in these exhibits should be classified as trade secrets, pursuant to 47 CFR Section 0.457(d) and Section 552(b)(4) of the Freedom of Information Act,” the company wrote. “The public disclosure of these materials may be harmful to the applicant and provide unjustified benefits to its competitors.”

No doubt that temporary confidentiality will be lifted come October 15th or 16th, the rumoured launch date for the new phone. In the meantime, you can drool over these photos that made their way online last week and purportedly show the Motorola-made Nexus in the flesh on public transit.
