Twitter makes it easier than ever to slide into the DMs

Twitter Canada

Starting today, you’ll be able to more easily share tweets privately with other Twitter users.

In a blog post published this morning, Twitter’s Senior Product Manager Somas Thyagaraja announced the new feature, which is available immediately through an update for both iOS and Android.

To use the feature, users can now simply click on the tweet they want to share and select the message panel next to the like button. This pops up a menu button that lets you select which user or users you’d like to send the tweet to via DM.

Thyagaraja noted in his post that direct messaging is one of Twitter’s most popular features and is used by millions of people everyday. In 2015 the number of direct messages sent grew over 60 percent, and the number of tweets shared privately grew by 200 percent in the second half of 2015. This particular feature was highly-requested by users.

Thyagraja says that the update is, “Our next step towards making conversations richer in direct messages.”
