MTS launches Total Internet, Canada’s first all inclusive wireless data and Internet access plan

Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) today announced the launch of a new all inclusive Internet and wireless data package called Total Internet.

Starting at $60 per month, the plan includes unlimited wireless data and Internet access, as well as unlimited access to MTS’s network of WiFi hotspots and the ability to tether a tablet, laptop or gaming device to a smartphone.

Four more family members can be added to the plan at $25 per additional person—that’s $85 a month for two people and $160 a month for a family of five.

In-home download speeds start at 10Mbps, but for an additional $7 a month they can be increased to 25Mbps. $18 more on top of that boosts those speeds to 50Mbps.

Voice calling and text messages aren’t part of the plan, and there’s a good reason for that.

“We purposely designed this service around our customers and their needs,” says Paul Norris, the company’s vice president of branding and consumer marketing, in a phone interview. “We quickly recognized that the essential piece for a lot of customers was around Internet access.”

However, customers that would like voice and text to their plan can do so by adding one of the company’s wireless voice plans, which start at $30 per month; TV service can be added for an additional $30 a month.

The service is currently available to customers on the company’s VDSL2 and FiON networks. According to Norris, that represents some 350,000 homes across the province, and includes communities like Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie and Selkirk, among others.
