Rogers releases new data roaming plans

Summertime is here and the trend in Canadian wireless this year is to adjust the data roaming charges. Telus, WIND and Mobilicity have all done it… now it’s Rogers turn. Below is their complete list of new data roaming charges for both the United States and Internationally. I believe the charges before used be good for 1-month, now you’ll now based on either a daily (based on 24-hours after purchase) and weekly (based on 168-hours after purchase).

United States:
Day Pass (24 hours) One Time Fee:

$5 = 2MB ($2.50/MB)
$10 = 10MB ($10.00/MB)
$20 = 40MB ($0.50/MB)

Weekly Pass (168 hours) One Time Fee:
$25 = 15MB ($1.67/MB)
$50 = 60MB ($0.83/MB)
$100 = 250MB ($0.40/MB)

International:
Day Pass (24 hours) One Time Fee:

$15 = 2MB ($7.50/MB)
$25 = 5MB ($5.00/MB)
$40 = 10MB ($4.00/MB)

Weekly Pass (168 hours) One Time Fee:
$50 = 10MB ($5.00/MB)
$100 = 25MB ($4.00/MB)
$225 = 75MB ($3.00/MB)

(Thanks tipster!)

  1. The graphic would be more useful if it were readable or if there was a breakdown entry in the article.
    Thanks, love the site!

  2. Fail. “No More Bill Shock”. Whatever.

Even at their lowest rate of $0.50/MB, that is still $512/GB.

Let me know when we can get roaming data for $0.10/MB ($102.40/GB), then it will actually be usable.

  4. Is this the kind of “contract change” that can be used to get out of a rogers contract without incurring an Early Cancellation Fee?

    • unfortunately not :( there not changing your contract they are just offering more options. the data rate for roaming stated on your contract still applies unless u get one of these addons :(

    • I don’t know what Rogers is smoking, but whatever it is, it’s being lit by $20 and $50 bills. Remember, the new $100 bill is made from polymer, so it will not burn with a flame.

  8. those rates are flat out insane.

I work overseas a fair bit and was stupid enough to pay for voice roaming (10 mins), text roaming (25 texts) and data roaming (10 MB). This amazing amount of connectivity set me back about $80.

I quickly learned that I can get a local sim and get prepaid voice (more than a months worth) and 1GB data/BIS for $50/month.

Rogers and the other Canadian carriers are unforgivable.

    • Sorry but comparing Canadian carriers to carriers overseas is completely irrelevant, and if you are indeed going to do this, why not compare the prices of other services/products as well? There are way to many factors to take in to consideration besides just comparing prices stand alone side by side.

  11. Wow…Look at those international prices. You’d be better off just buying a cheap phones from the country and using pay as you go there.

  12. The prices aren’t great, but you’ll come across that with any carrier for international roaming. The alerts and the hard caps are definitely a step in the right direction, though.

  13. The problem here is the time limitations. the fact that the $/mb is going does not make up for the fact that it’s gone from monthly to weekly/daily

a prev add on was 225$ for 100mb on a month. and now it’s the same for a week. Still, sim swap, only way to go

  14. ATT sim card (5$) + $25 for 500mb prepaid data = $30.00 anywhere in the USA for a whole month where I get 250mb for $100. 70$ savings… f**k you rogers

    • Does that Data rate/plan work with a blackberry bis, or only for other smartphones?

  16. Look at this. $10/MB LOL

    United States:
Day Pass (24 hours) One Time Fee:
    $5 = 2MB ($2.50/MB)
    $10 = 10MB ($10.00/MB)
    $20 = 40MB ($0.50/MB)

Seriously, yea this sucks. I’ll be buying a SIM card from a carrier if I plan to be out of Canada for a month or whatever. Roaming charges are just too expensive.

  17. Wait – it’s not obvious that there was any price decrease. It seems more by breaking it down into such small chucks of data size, and by day/week.

  18. no one buys these options anyways. i want to take my phone when i travel and never have to worry about trying to predict how much im going to talk or how many mb i’ll use. i want a cheap rate regardless how much i use and for all services. it’s hard enough planning travel than having to plan your phone stuff.

  23. This is the reason I always get my phones unlocked. When overseas, I buy a prepaid card for a fraction of what they charge for weekly internet. On France’s ORANGE, For 24 Euros, I can get a SIM card, plus air time and 500 MB data valid 21 days. That works out to $33. Rogers charges $225 for 75MB ? I checked my calendar and it’s not April 1st..
