Sony Ericsson wants to be the world’s largest supplier of Android phones

It’s always good to aim high in life and have big goals to accomplish. Sony Ericsson has a dream… and that dream according to CEO Bert Nordberg is to become the world’s largest supplier of Android-powered smartphones. Nordberg didn’t reveal any specific date for this to happen. Sony Ericsson currently has 17% of the Android market share and will face huge competition with HTC, Motorola and Samsung. All these manufacturers are making Google’s Android platform a bigger part of their device lineup.

In Canada we’ve got the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, the X10 mini and the upcoming X10 Mini Pro.

  1. We’ll they’re not going to be the market leader if they keep on releasing Android 1.6 phones :)

  2. ^ So true! If they can get timely firmware updates out, and compete on the hardware end they would have no problem. I doubt it will happen though when you look at what HTC, Samsung, and Moto have been putting out.

  3. SE has some really cool phones, but so far HTC and Samsung are the ones flooding the market so SE is going to have to step it up if they’re serious.

  4. Then they should start by actually upgrading their devices past Android 1.6 I’m still waiting for my mini pro to get a decent update. Talk is cheap.

  5. Wow, with both Samsung and SE coming out strongly for Android, today appears to be a good day for Google.

  10. If Sony wants to be the world’s largest supplier of Android phones. Update the version of 2.1 for x10 or still sony is wayyyyy behind samsung, htc and motorola because they are getting 2.2 next month. sony is not improving on android phones. they need to update phones version or make new window 7 phones to increase the market share.

  12. They should focus on supporting their existing hardware and not releasing it with an outdated OS. No company seems to get this other than Moto and HTC.

  16. How in the world did they even manage to score 17% of the Android market? That baffles me.

  17. Why are video calls supported on the Sony Experia X10 it doesn’t have a front fnicag VGA camera? And, if you are making this happen thru the regular camera, why not support other phones?
