Easy come, Easy go… “The Nexus One is no longer available for purchase directly from Google”

The title says it all… Google recently said they would no longer offer the Nexus One for sale directly from them. Today they put a gentle message on the Google.com/phone site that says “Nexus One is no longer available for purchase directly from Google.” Easiest way now to get this “superphone” is through eBay.

  1. How about a word on what this means. There is no longer an easily upgradeable device with a sanctioned open policy.

  2. Thrilled that I was able to get mine about two weeks ago before the cutoff. Best Android phone in Canada right now.

  4. I am slightly uneasy about how I feel about all the Nexus One bashing that has gone on in recent months. To be honest I went from being a Blackberry user for years to my N1 back in March. At first it bothered me but I got over it and now since the Froyo 2.2 update I am sure that I would never purchase an iPhone. It is honestly a great phone. But I can understand why the critics were tough on it at first as 2.1 was not the greatest operating system.

Does anyone else know what I am talking about?

  5. Truly unfortunate… As good as some of the other Android super phones are (Galaxy S, Desire…), the fact that the Nexus one was as “plain vanilla” as possible, with QUICK OS update straight from Google (not relying on a carrier or manufacturer) is a blessing…

Not sure I’d want to go back to another phone after having experienced that level of aftersale support….

  6. I got mine a couple of months ago, couldn’t be happier running a custom Froyo ROM. While I agree it might be the easiest way to get the N1 now… I think one would want to wait until it becomes the official ADP3 (Android Dev Phone 3) and then buy it off of Google. Either that or head over to T-Mobile in the states and try to buy one off of them unlocked. Great phone, sorry to see it go so soon. On the bright side for me, looks like I have a relatively rare collector’s item now. ^^

  7. this is a sad day..
    I love my nexus one
I don’t know what I’m going to get next. I don’t want to have a skin on my android. That just ruins it for me. And even if other vanilla phones, none of them get updates like the N1

  9. Very sad day. I’m affraid we won’t see the N1 in Canada.
Let’s see what’s Google is going to sell to the developers after ADP1 (HTC Dream), ADP2 (HTC Magic) and ADP3 (HTC Nexus One) in one year.
