Motorola Milestone launch getting closer as TELUS puts “coming soon” on homepage

Over the weekend we posted a story of the TELUS Motorola Milestone appearing in the upcoming Best Buy catalog. More Milestone news today as TELUS has updated their site to have the Android-powered device from and centre. It’s still the usual “coming soon” but now we get a notify me when it’s available sign up page.

Any predictions on the actual launch date?

  1. Isuspect they’ll launch around the time of the olympics. Because this is such a highly touted device, it would be worth they’re while to get it out just before the olympics. That way people could blow the hell out of they’re data plan by following the Olympics through the device’s browser.

  3. They definitely should’ve called it something other than Milestone. The name isn’t catchy like Droid. Sounds like a university term paper project.

Verizon is using “Droid” under license from Lucasfilm.

I honestly can’t wait for this phone, and just in time for my renewal period. :D

  6. Actually Verizon/Motorola purchased the rights to use the “droid” name from Lucasfilm, who owns the trademark. They have to pay them a royalty for all devices sold, plus for marketing.

They probably didn’t want to have to pay more than they had to outside of the US so they changed the name.

The Droid© is a trademark used by Veziron (US) for all Android devices (including the Motorola Milestone CDMA and the HTC Hero CDMA).

Motorola Milestone is the worldwide name for this device even if everyone have in mind the “Motorola Droid” and the “Droid does” ads.

  9. Pretty sure George Lucas (Lucasfilm) owns the rights to the name “Droid”. Verizon and/or Motorola probably licensed the name…

  10. Will Telus just sell me the phone without activating it? Or will they pull the “We can’t sell a phone from our inventory without activating it” stint? If so, where could I buy this so I could just unlock it and use it on Bell?
