RBC brings Augmented Reality into its mobile apps to point customers towards the closest ATM

RBC continues to advance their mobile apps. The country’s largest financial institution recently unveiled its Windows Phone 8 app, gave customers the ability to send e-Transfers to your Facebook Messenger contacts, and made inroads into mobile payments with a partnership with Bell.

The newest update, which is available on the iPhone, Android and BlackBerry 7 devices, brings Augmented Reality into it the mix with a goal to quickly help customers find the closest ATM. This tool of locating the closest branch has always be embedded within the app, but RBC admits that it was included “without context of which direction.” Users can now access the app and tap the “find a location’ tab, then hit the camera button and the app will point you in the right direction to the closest ATM or branch. Augmented Reality (AR) uses the the GPS and camera on your device to bring you the closest results.

Jeremy Bornstein, Head of Emerging Payments at RBC stated “The Branch/ATM Locators is one of the most used tools in our mobile app. By using new technology like Augmented Reality, we were able to develop a tool that is really useful in the day to day lives of our customers.”
