Canada Computers has begun to notify customers of a data breach that allegedly happened last year.
Via iPhoneinCanada, Canada Computers has started sending out emails to alert customers of “a data security incident that may have exposed certain of your personal information to an unauthorized intruder.” The retailer says it discovered “unauthorized access to portion of our system, which may have compromised the security of a few of our online customers’ information.” It says certain customer information may have been stolen, “including email addresses, first and last names and possibly credit card numbers,” but says it doesn’t have any evidence that this information has been used fraudulently.
Canada Computers says its “systems have been thoroughly vetted and further enhancement to our security systems have been implemented” in an effort “to ensure there are no current vulnerabilities.”
The retailer is suggesting that customers change all of their website and computer passwords and monitor their bank and credit card statements. “We apologize for any inconvenience this incident may cause you and thank you for your understanding and patience,” it said. It concluded by saying that concerned customers can reach out to Customer.Support@canadacomputers.com.
With all of that said, it should be noted that the timeline that Canada Computers provides doesn’t seem to line up.
Earlier this month, several customers took to Reddit to report that their credit cards had been compromised after shopping on the retailer’s website. The original poster (OP) said they discovered a vulnerability on Canada Computers’ website on Jan. 18, 2026, and archived records of the site seemingly show the vulnerability dating back to early December. Specifically, the vulnerability appeared to be a form of infostealing malware that collected customer information entered on the website. Multiple commenters then responded to report suspicious credit card activity after they’d purchased items from Canada Computers.
The OP said they’d tried twice to get in touch with Canada Computers but had both support tickets closed. While the retailer doesn’t have a dedicated press contact, MobileSyrup reached out for comment through four different avenues on Jan. 23, but hasn’t yet received a response.
Assuming the OP’s timeline of events is accurate, it would be concerning if this issue began in early December, but Canada Computers is claiming to have only just become aware of this issue on January 23 (coincidentally, the same day MobileSyrup reached out and published our original story).
MobileSyrup has reached out again for comment and will update this story if we do get a response.
