James Cameron joins board of directors at Stability AI

James Cameron likes AI?

Stability AI, the company behind the popular Stable Difusion AI video generator, has hired James Cameron to its executive leadership team.

Stability’s press release says, “James Cameron has been a driving force in merging cutting-edge technology with visionary storytelling. [His] addition represents a significant step forward in Stability AI’s mission to transform visual media. Both Cameron and Stability AI operate at the intersection of emerging technology and creativity. Cameron’s artist-centric perspective, paired with his business and technical acumen, will support Stability AI in continuing to unlock new opportunities to empower creators to tell stories in ways once unimaginable.”

The Canadian director has used AI to remaster and upscale some of his earlier films like The Abyss, True Lies and Aliens. While some members of the public were against this and unhappy with the quality, Cameron responded by saying, “When people start reviewing your grain structure, they need to move out of mom’s basement and meet somebody. Right?”

So, it appears he’ll not back down from using AI in his filmmaking soon. Avatar: Fire and Ash is anticipated to be released in 2025, and it will be interesting to see if Cameron uses AI in his ultra-popular film franchise.
