New Google Maps app for iOS has not been submitted to Apple, not coming anytime soon

According to a couple reports today it looks like those iOS 6 users who are looking for Google Maps to come back to iOS will have to wait a bit longer. Both Bloomberg and Reuters have quotes from Google’s Eric Schmidt about the Google/Apple partnership, plus the lack of the popular maps on Apple devices. Bottom line… Google Maps on iOS is not happening anytime soon:

Bloomberg:
“We haven’t done anything yet with Google Maps.” Schmidt told reporters in Tokyo today. Apple would “have to approve it. It’s their choice,” Schmidt said, declining to say if the Mountain View, California-based company submitted an application to Apple for sale through its App Store.

Reuters:
“We think it would have been better if they had kept ours. But what do I know? What were we going to do, force them not to change their mind? It’s their call. We have not done anything yet.”

In the meantime you can always use Apple’s new Maps app, or take Nokia advice and use their browser based mapping solution (Nokia Maps)
