The Canadian government extended its contract with BlackBerry for secure communications, which will see a significant increase in the deployment of BlackBerry’s SecuSUITE platform.

SecuSUITE is an encrypted communications service used to support sensitive government communications. It secures access to voice, messaging, and file sharing services for authorized users across the federal government. Shared Services Canada notes that provinces and territories can also adopt the terms of the agreement if they so choose, which supports “a consistent approach to secure communications across jurisdictions.”

The contract will now run through 2033.

“This agreement reflects the Government of Canada’s continued trust in BlackBerry as a long‑term strategic partner for secure communications,” says BlackBerry CEO John J. Giamatteo.

“As a Canadian company with decades of experience supporting governments and allies, we are proud to deliver interception‑resistant communications that protect sensitive operations, strengthen sovereign capability, and support Canada’s broader objectives to invest in domestic innovation while exporting trusted security technology to partners around the world.”

The press release also notes that the contract supports the Canadian government’s ‘Buy Canadian Policy’ through “strengthening partnerships with Canadian-based companies, such as BlackBerry, to enhance secure and reliable solutions aligned with national priorities.”
