While Marvel’s Wolverine naturally dominated much of the conversation surrounding last night’s PlayStation State of Play stream, there was one other announcement that perhaps stood out more than any other. It wasn’t even a game, either. No, I’m talking about new PlayStation-branded desktop speakers called the Pulse Elevate.
Coming in 2026, these are Sony’s first-ever wireless speakers for desktop gaming, offering compatibility with devices like PC, Mac, PS5 and PlayStation Portal. The speakers build on Sony’s gaming audio technology, featuring magnetic drivers, the proprietary PlayStation Link system for ultra-low latency lossless audio (also used in PlayStation’s Pulse Elite headset and Pulse Explore headphones) and the PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech.
On top of that, the Pulse Elevate has a built-in mic with AI-enhanced noise rejection, customizable audio settings and adjustable positioning, and a PlayStation Link USB adapter that is compatible with USB-C ports. Black and white options will be available.
Of course, there are plenty of gaming-oriented desktop speakers you could get, so it remains to be seen how much of a draw these might have with people. The biggest question mark surrounding the devices right now is pricing, given that neither the State of Play nor PlayStation’s accompanying blog post confirmed it.
If nothing else, this does further indicate PlayStation’s increased commitment to the PC market. In recent years, the company has released several of its PS4 and PS5 games on PC, including both The Last of Us titles, the God of War duology, Ghost of Tsushima and the Marvel’s Spider-Man series. Helldivers 2 even launched day and date on PS5 and PC, a strategy that helped it reach a massive audience.
PlayStation says it will share more information on the Pulse Elevate, including a launch date, “in the coming months.”
