Samsung opens R&D facility in Vancouver, will work on mobile security solutions

Samsung Canada has opened up a Canadian Research & Development Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. This will be the first location in Canada and now joins 33 other R&D facilities around the world, including those located in the UK, U.S., Russia, India, Japan, Israel and China.

The “Samsung R&D Institute Canada” currently employs 60 people (software engineers, designers and operations staff) and looks like they’ll be working on the KNOX platform, potentially aiming directly at BlackBerry users, as the press release noted their efforts will “support the global design, development, operation and technical support of Samsung enterprise security solutions.”

“Our new Canadian Samsung R&D facility is creating jobs in British Columbia, a hub for technology innovation,” said HT Kim, President and CEO of Samsung Canada. “With a skilled Canadian talent base to draw from, the team will help Samsung continue to lead the industry – both at home and abroad – by driving product innovation.”
