Mobile-friendly VPN service SurfEasy gets iOS 7 redesign

Toronto-based SurfEasy, provider of boundary-crossing VPN software for Windows, OS X, iOS and Android, has released version 2.0 for Apple’s platform with a simpler workflow and an overhauled design.

The service connects an iPhone or iPad to a secure VPN network, passing all device traffic through another IP address for anonymity and security. This ensures protection from open WiFi networks and other middleman hacks, but it also has an added benefit of allowing users to access geographically-restricted content. Because many of SurfEasy’s servers are located around the world, iPhone and iPad users (along with Android customers) can connect to apps like Hulu and Pandora, as well as the considerably-better U.S. Netflix catalogue, through their devices.

SurfEasy 2.0 for iOS adds push notifications and a new design, and also lets users gain bonus data by referring friends and family to the service, from within the app. The iOS VPN connection process is still a bit cumbersome, but the instructions are straightforward and easy to navigate in iOS 7. There is a free tier with 500MB of data, while a Premium for Mobile account costs $2.99/month or $29.99/year.
