RBC iPhone and BlackBerry app “coming soon”

ING, CIBC, TD Bank, Desjardins, Scotiabank all have some sort of mobile banking app (iPhone, BlackBerry, Android) and for some reason RBC (the largest financial institution in Canada) to date doesn’t… but good news for customers as it’s “coming soon”.

RBC has posted a splash page with really old images on their site stating an iPhone and BlackBerry app will be released shortly. There is the standard features that include the ability to pay bills, transfer funds, check account balances, Use Interac Email Money Transfers and locate branches and ATMs.

Progress is good!

Not surprised that Android is missing from the list of operating systems.

  • Chris Marle

Damn about time! But you know… Better late than never!

  • Sid

I’d be scared to use this, two of the biggest fee gouging industries united in one place.

  • schultzter

RBC already has a mobile web page that works on all those platforms AND on my feature phone too!!!

They should concentrate on improving the mobile web site rather than wasting their time trying to create apps for multiple mobile platforms. No matter what they’re always going to leave some one out – either because they have a fringe platform (like Bada) or they’re an early adopter (like Meego). By sticking to a web based interface they don’t leave anyone out.

Stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid !!!!

People are moving more and more to smartphones, and towards data consumption through apps. Smartphones are handling regular internet better every day, so why would a company spend money improving a mobile internet site?

    • schultzterisadumidiot

dude, lol why da hell wud we use a mobile site wen the app specificaly does a job. FASTER and SIMPLE. i dont think u undestand the concept of that… are u living in the 18th century? sigh… people this days… have no clue…

  • zorxd

Why not do like desjardins? A mobile-optimized version of their web site. This way it works on all platforms and doesn’t have to be approved by steve jobs.

  • Chris Marle

” An email will be sent to you within the coming months that will outline how to directly download the app to your smartphone. ”

    Wait, in the coming months?

Not surprising that they left our Android. Seems like TD is the only one with the app for Android it looks like. Another reason why they are better.

  • GT

Still waiting for PC Financail to release one. I wouldn’t think it would be too hard. They should ask CIBC for help.

  • Lana

PC needs to either be supported on the CIBC app or make their own! I’ve been told that things like this are developed in direct relation to customer complaints- so if you want a PC iPhone app email them and complain!

I’ve already contacted RBC directly regarding Android. Their response is that while they’re not saying they won’t be creating Android or Windows Phone 7 apps, at the moment, they are only focusing on iOS and Blackberry.

Who knows, it may come in the future. Kind of like what TD did.

  • IAMTHEMAN

    Cool.

  • Jester

Still not good enough. Why can’t I do my damn direct investing on my phone? Come on RBC get with the program!!!

    • Timmer

Heard anymore about RBC Direct Investing BB or Iphone app?

  • Dead Snoopy

    HSBC one day anyone?

  • Kris

FYI: the “online banking agreement change notice” that RBC sent as part of this says that the change is effective Dec 17. I’m assuming that means we won’t see it before the 17th, but who knows how long after that date.

  • Ryan Waddell

Well, if they have it for BB, it’s only a matter of time before it’s on Android. The two aren’t all that different to develop for, really.

  • Jim

Hopefully it will be a native app

  • Manu

Hmmmm….RBC your late to the party….hopefully you will be able to deliver something worthwhile but your playing catchup.

  • Tommy D

    Hmmmmm…no android? what gives?
