RIM’s new browser to be a “Game Changer”, expected before May 2010

RIM is working hard to develop a new web browsing experience, they recently purchased Torch Mobile to help them build it out.

Analysts over at Canaccord Adams has gone on record and stated they believe the new browser will be released before May 2010. Specifically speaking about the experience, this “game changer” of a browser has “a full rendering engine with incredible speed, sub three second download speeds for the most media-intensive of websites, while retaining significant bandwidth advantages over any other device or browser on the market.”

In addition, they state that “RIM’s new browser architecture allows MDS, instead of the browser, to handle communication with websites, returning only the final message to the handset, which results in faster and much more efficient browsing on the mobile device.”

Sounds incredibly better than what we are used to now! Think… just less than 5 months away!

  1. Let’s see how long it takes the carriers to push out the updates to the customers. Im guessing late summer.

  2. Will this new browser be Blackberry Specific?

  3. Yeah, as theninjasquad said this all depends on distribution model.

    - Will it replace the current browser as an update?

    - Will this update be device/os specific?

    - OTA/AppWorld distribution or via carrier?

All depends how they get it out. One could probably safely assume it will require OS 5.0. Whether integrated into it or offered as an App.

  5. Frederick, if the only OS you have used is the iPhone, I can sorta understand your issue… however, if you’ve used any other device OS (WinMo or Android), I can honestly say you haven’t the foggiest when it comes to a buggy OS. I’ve used WinMo, I’ve heard from friends who use Andriod, there are bugs. The Blackberry OS is pretty gosh-darned rock-solid (assuming you are using a carrier-released OS version of course). The “buggy” part unfortunately of late has been server-side.

Yes, the OS could use a major refresh, but personally I like it how it is. It’s organized and classy, though it could be a wee bit flashier (and flash it will get, by the way).

Do I think RIM needs to work on that OS? Yeah, I do. Do I think RIM needs to work on their server reliability? Yes, I do. Do I think RIM is in danger of going under? Heck no. Corporates deal with it due to its incredible security features. Those who rely heavily on messaging and e-mail I have noticed tend to prefer it simply because it does both of these incredibly well.

    Not a fan-boy, just sayin’ what I know…

  6. The guys says like 10 words and half of them don’t make sense. Then you start ranting about blackberry going under? You are supposed to waft it towards your nose, not directly inhale. No one is too cool for school son.
