Spotify expands AI Playlist beta feature to Canada

Premium subscribers will be able to ask Spotify's AI to build music playlists

Spotify is expanding its beta AI Playlist feature to Canada, as well as the U.S., Ireland and New Zealand starting September 24th.

AI Playlists are exactly as they sound: AI-generated playlists. Spotify Premium subscribers on Android or iOS (English only) will be able to use the feature to type out the type of playlist they want and then have AI build one. For example (since we’re officially in spooky season), you could ask it to build a playlist of spooky songs for a Halloween party.

The chat-based AI interface will let users revise the playlist as well by asking for tweaks, such as by asking the AI to add “more pop songs.”

Spotify says the AI Playlist feature works best with prompts that focus on genre, mood, or artist, but said users can try prompts with “animals, activities, movie characters, colours – and even emojis.”

The music streamer also stressed that the feature is in beta and it’s “still actively learning and iterating with each exchange,” so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t work flawlessly.

Eligible subscribers can find AI Playlists by heading to the Library tab, tapping the ‘+’ icon in the top-right corner and selecting the ‘AI Playlist’ option.
