Amazon may launch a mobile-focused media service in Canada

Earlier this week, Variety reported that Amazon may be looking to launch a dedicated product called ‘Fuse’ for mobile platforms.

In a U.S. trademark filed on March 7th, 2018, Fuse is said to be “related to the transmission of entertainment services, including audio and video content, over the internet and mobile networks.”

Interestingly, a similar trademark has been spotted in Canada and was actually filed before the one in the U.S. on February 28th, 2018.

It’s currently unclear what Fuse will entail, exactly, given that Amazon already streams movies and TV shows through its Prime Video service.

However, in a two-week-old job posting first spotted by Variety, a software development engineer seems to offer a few suggestions of what Fuse might be. “Amazon Fuse is a newly launched product and team at Amazon,” reads the engineers job ad.

“Amazon Fuse enables international partners to offer Amazon subscription services to their customers. This provides Amazon with expanded customer reach and international distribution. The Fuse business is primarily working with mobile operators across the globe to bring Prime Video, Music, Kindle, and Prime to hundreds of millions of customers.”

Amazon has declined to comment on this story.
