Prime Video’s latest original series is decidedly Canadian.
It’s a coming-of-age drama series called Sterling Point that follows 17-year-old Annie (The Chair‘s Ella Rubin) as she inherits her grandfather’s mysterious island in Muskoka, Ont. While there, she comes across family secrets, new friends and budding romances.
Besides Ontario’s cottage country being a focal point of the story and where the series was actually filmed, Sterling Point has a lot of Canadian talent in front of and behind the camera. To start, the series was created by writer-director-actor Megan Park, who was born and raised in Kawartha Lakes and is best known in recent years for directing the acclaimed films The Fallout and My Old Ass. (The latter, starring Ottawa’s Maisy Stella, was also set in Muskoka and co-produced by Margot Robbie’s Lucky Chap Entertainment, which worked on Sterling Point as well).
Additionally, Calgary’s Stephanie Schwartz is one of the showrunners on Sterling Point alongside her American creative partner Josh Schwartz, who previously created Gossip Girl together. And finally, some of the stars are Canadian, including Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation’s Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie (A Colony) and Blood 148 Reserve’s Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers (Night Raiders).
Other non-Canadian stars in the series include Amélie Hoeferle (Night Swim), Keen Ruffalo (Hal & Harper), Bo Bragason (Renegade Nell), Daniel Quinn-Toye (Pressure), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead) and Jay Duplass (Room 104). For all my fellow video game fans, it’s also worth noting that Bragason will play Princess Zelda in next year’s live-action adaptation of Nintendo’s beloved The Legend of Zelda video game series.
All eight episodes of Sterling Point are now streaming on Prime Video.
