Yes, you read that right, the era of pay-per-view Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) events in Canada is over.
Beginning in 2027, the UFC will be moving it’s numbered events to Paramount+ in Canada, bringing the 13 scheduled marquee events directly to subscribers of the service.
According to the press release, the agreement between the UFC and Paramount is for six years.
Now, considering that the media deal between Sportsnet and the UFC is still ongoing, only the main cards will be broadcast on Paramount+. For the time being, preliminary events on numbered cards and Fight Nights will still be airing on Sportsnet. However, your wallet will be happy, because it appears that pay-per-views are effectively over.
This new expansion builds on the monumental seven-year deal signed between the streaming service and the promotion that was announced last year.
According to the UFC, additional details regarding the first events to stream on the platform will be announced later in the year. It hasn’t been said whether the same amount of features (mainly the archived fights) will head to Canada, but I imagine it will.
