Tesla debuts seven-seat version of 2026 Model Y

It isn't what some were hoping for, however

Tesla has launched a seven-seat version of the 2026 Model Y in the U.S.

You can get the extra row of seats by paying an extra US $2,500 (about C$3,500). That said, it’s only available with the Premium All-Wheel-Drive Long Range model, and it’s unclear if and when it might come to Canada.

That said, this isn’t what some were expecting when Tesla teased the option last year, with people taking to X (Twitter) to criticize the model for lacking the bigger wheelbase. Therefore, the relatively small leg room would primarily just make this feasible for kids.

On X, some people called for the bigger six-seat “Model YL” version to come to the west. So far, it’s only available in China, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk said it could either come to the U.S. market in late 2026 or, perhaps, “never” at all.

In other Tesla news, the company is dealing with nearly 10,000 potential traffic violations over its Full Self-Driving (FSD) vehicles. The ever-controversial Musk, meanwhile, has come under fire recently for his X platform allowing users to create inappropriate imagery of people without their consent, something he feigned ignorance about.
