Samsung wants you to replace your second tv with its new 18.4 inch tablet

Samsung Galaxy View

After making an early appearance on a variety of third-party e-commerce websites, Samsung’s latest tablet, the 18.4-inch Galaxy View, has been officially revealed

Billed by Samsung as the largest mobile device available on the market, the View features a 1080p display; a 5700mAh battery capable of sustaining the tablet through eight hours of continuous video playback, according to the company; an octa-core Exynos 7580 processor clocked at 1.6Ghz; 2GB of RAM; 32GB and 64GB storage options; a NanoSIM slot, as well as Bluetooth 4.1 and WiFi ac connectivity; and Android 5.1.

The South Korean smartphone and tablet maker says the View features a dedicated home screen aimed at, “making it incredibly easy and convenient for users to enjoy the latest entertainment.” (it’s possible to see the home screen in action in the image below).

As I mentioned when the View first leaked, it will be interesting to see if this tablet finds a market. With a reported sticker price of US$600, if your goal is to purchase a secondary TV, then there are lot cheaper options out there. Granted, they won’t double as an Android tablet, but then again there are also more affordable tablets with better technical specifications out there as well.

There is no word yet on Canadian pricing and availably. We’ve reached out to Samsung to find when and if the Galaxy View will make it to Canada. We’ll update this post once we hear back from the company.
