The popstar will perform at six Toronto shows in November

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

A new report has shed some light on the expected economic impact of Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated Toronto concerts.

According to Destination Toronto, the non-profit focused on promoting the city’s tourism industry, the popstar’s six upcoming “Eras Tour” Toronto shows are estimated to bring $282 million into the local economy. This includes expenses outside of the concert tickets or airfare, such as dining, accommodations and shopping.

In total, Destination Toronto anticipates $152 million in direct spending, of which $141 million is estimated to come from out-of-town visitors and $11 million is estimated to come from local fans. Government is also expected to bring in $40 million in tax revenue from the Eras Tour shows.

Altogether, 240,000 people will attend Swift’s Toronto concerts at the Rogers Centre, which will be held on November 14th, 15th, 16th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd. What’s more, Destination Toronto says around 60,000 people are expected to attend Toronto’s Version: Taylgate ’24, a pre-concert event being held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre that will drive additional revenue into the city.

Swift’s Eras Tour has been massively successful since it kicked off in California in March 2023. In the U.S. alone, the concert is believed to have brought in nearly $5 billion (about $6.8 billion CAD). Of course, that doesn’t factor in the other stops on Swift’s global tour, which has encompassed five continents and 149 shows. It also doesn’t account for the film version of the Eras Tour, which became the highest-grossing concert film of all time with over $250 million USD (about $344 million CAD) and is now streaming on Disney+.

Notably, the Eras Tour will conclude in Vancouver with three shows from December 6th to 8th. It will be interesting to see what the projected economic impact of the concert will ultimately be for the B.C. city.
