Bell Officially launching HSPA network on November 4th

bell-logoIt’s now official. Bell will be launching their HSPA network on Wednesday, November 4th. This has been no surprise as we’ve simply waited for the official announcement. In addition, you can expect the iPhone to launch on the 4th plus other key devices.

BCE President & CEO George Cope said “In two days, Canadians will be able to access the most advanced wireless network in the world. The launch of our new network – months ahead of schedule – underlines that the Bell team continues to deliver on our strategic imperatives to accelerate wireless in Canada and to invest in next-generation broadband networks. We move forward every day toward achieving our goal – for Bell to be recognized by customers as Canada’s leading communications company.”

Bell also reiterated that the “new network will be the fastest in Canada, with access speeds as high as 21 Megabits per second (Mbps) and with the largest service area by far – more than a million square kilometres – covering approximately 20,000 Canadian cities and towns and 93% of the national population. With international roaming capability on GSM, UMTS and HSPA networks, Bell HSPA clients will also be able to roam internationally in more than 200 countries at launch.”

    3. So is there a map to confirm who and where the HSPA network is rolling out on launch? There’s a lot of word around St. John’s (Newfoundland) that we won’t see any of it on launch, and others saying its a for sure.

word is it’s mostly everywhere you can get coverage now. including us over in corner brook and stephenville over on the western side of newfoundland. If we get it over here i’m sure St. Johns will.

      200 countries???

The United States’ State Department recognizes 194 independent countries around the world.

    6. #1) This is not the United States.
#2) Keywords; Recognizes, independant and countries.

    7. So what are the other 6 countries then? You just want to argue eh.

Recognize that there are dozens of territories and colonies that are sometimes erroneously called “countries” but don’t count at all – they’re governed by other countries. Places commonly confused as being countries include Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Greenland, Palestine, Western Sahara, and even the components of the United Kingdom (such as Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England – they’re not fully independent countries, states, or nation-states).

uhh, yes? That would be my point. Your designation of ‘country’ is based on the American definition/designation. There’s an entire world out there besides the USA with different opinions and designations of what a country, territory, colony, etc. is (and how they should be represented). If Bell chooses to recognize places like Bermuda, Greenland, and so on as Countries – which does not coincide with the Americans official stance – who cares? We’re not in the USA (as I originally said).
