Apple releases iOS 6.1.1 for iPhone 4S to fix cellular performance

iphone4s15

Apple has gone ahead and issued an update to address the cellular performance issues introduced in iOS 6.1 for iPhone 4S users. This does not affect the iPhone 4 or iPhone 5, and there is no update for those devices as a result.

This update fixes an issue that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S.

It’s likely that Apple thought it prudent to issue the most pressing fixes as soon as possible, and will roll out a remedy to the battery issues found on the iPhone 5 in iOS 6.1.2.

To apply the fix, head to your iPhone 4S Settings/General/Software update or download the IPSW for manual installation.

I’m so glad I stuck with 6.0.2 . Yuck. Ain’t nobody got time for this.

    BB10 ftw.

Just updated my wife’s 4S…only takes about 10 seconds to pickup WiFi but still almost 30 seconds searching (29.7 to be exact…I used a stopwatch on my Nexus4 :P) before carrier signal (TELUS) was connected.

Now imagine any other non-Nexus phone trying to get an update this quickly. Good luck.

And all the android fanboys will now dislike this because the truth hurts. Nobody can deny that Apple has the fastest updates.

  • oldschool

Damn that’s quick. Sucks it has to happen in the first place, but at least it remedied.

If that was Samsung Canada we were dealing with here, we might have seen that update in July.

      July 2014.

      July 2015 if it’s HTC.

Well apple fanboys, that’s true, Apple does update more often and jailbreaking the iphone is far easier than rooting androids right now, LOL and then? That’s right, that’s where it ends. Android, at this point is far superior in every other way. Oh, and I don’t consider having millions of apps, the majority of which are complete garbage, a big deal. Frankly, the majority of Androids apps are crap also. You be lucky to find 200 apps between both android and iphone that are any good and 200 is a stretch.

  • dizzle

this is just an exploit to stop you from jailbreaking

    • Jorden

Jailbreak still works with this update.

  • Deli

jailbreaking is a never-ending cat and mouse chase. Rooting is so damn easy as well.

so an update to improve reliability means it never was that reliable in the first place??

    • Sam

Rooting is easy for you perhaps but jailbreaking is easy for anyone.

  • wotzit2ya

Never had issue with cell performance before so dunno what this fixed

  • Slype

The only way to get Apple to release a fix for widespread problems that Apple thinks do not exist is to jailbreak the latest iOS platform. lol. Poor Steve Jobs. Cook is destrying his legacy by admitting fault way too much these days with their ancient looking phone OS.

Doesn’t Cook know that Apple never makes mistakes?

  • Lauren

It does affect iPhone 4 as since I updated to this my phone has had nothing but problems freezing, battery life, searching its ridiculous that there is t a fix for me

  • SN86

It didn’t fix the problem with it taking so long to find the network after a reboot.
