Rogers Palm Pre 2 images surface

Last week HP officially announced that the Palm Pre 2 was coming to Canada “in the coming months”, but gave no insight into which carrier was going to carry the device. Then hidden in the source code on the Palm Canada site was “The Palm Pre2 phone is available on the Rodger’s network”. We can now confirm that this new webOS 2.0 device will in fact be coming to Rogers as one of our tipsters sent us the upcoming packaging with Rogers all over it. In addition, taking a look at the pics you’ll see the Pre 2 all hooked up to Rogers network. We’re still waiting on an official launch date and pricing. Check out the pics after the break…

Update: Rumoured pricing/launch date – not confirmed – could be the following: November 9th launch date with the 3-year voice/data contract being $99.99. Again, not confirmed.

Update #2: We’ve been asked to take the images down. Just know it’s coming soon… who’s excited to be getting the new Palm device?

  1. I really, really, really want this phone. But I have the Torch, and BBM is the only reason why I’m keeping it :(

    • For you (and others who are sticking with BB solely for BBM) you should check out, and get all your friends on, Kik. It’s a multiplatform chat app which is VERY similar to BBM, and can run on Android, iPhone, or Blackberry (and presumably WebOS and WP7, if not now than certainly in the future).

    • Another great app to look at just like Kik and bbm is PingChat. On top of being able to see when someone read your message like bbm, you can also do group chat, txt, pic, audio, and video messaging and file attachments. It also works if you have just the social or email and im plan on a blackberry. And of course it works with blackberry, android, and iphone.

  5. For some reason I kind of want this to. I had the pre plus and got rid of it after two weeks. But hopefully the pre 2 is better than that?

  9. Are there any reports out of France yet on the hardware quality of the Pre 2?
Also, if I bought a Pre2 full price from Rogers, had it unlocked, it should work on Fido, right?

  11. Personally? I could not STAND the keyboard on the original Pre. Felt like the buttons on one of those crappy remotes that come free with a $20 iPod alarm clock.

    • You should try the Pre Plus one, which probably what the Pre 2 has as well. It’s MUCH clickier.

  13. Uhm, why does it require specific versions of Windows or Mac OS when it’s cloud based??? Oddly enough it doesn’t mention Java, which is required to run webOS Doctor (the only desktop program that goes with webOS devices, and only in the event of a bricking).

  15. Hm. Rogers new lineup is the Nokia N8, Dell Streak, Vivaz Pro, Captivate, Samsung Focus, and the Palm Pre 2.
Not too shabby Rogers, not too shabby at all. Now if only they had tri-band 3G frequencies -_-.. then they’d all work on WIND.

  19. I wandered into two Rogers stores yesterday (Nov 11) and told them I’d heard rumours that Rogers would be carrying this phone. No-one could confirm a date, but both stores had Pre 2 dummies in the back room and one staffer said he’d had training on the device. Looks like it’s coming!

I got to hold BB Torch and Pre 2 dummies side-by-side. The Pre 2 is a smaller, slicker-looking device. It’s active screen area is a little narrower than the Torch’s and just a tiny sliver longer. The keyboard is a little smaller and the key action is not quite as “PC-like”. I’d be keying with my fingernails most of the time.

The BB Torch is going for $240 with a plan. If the rumours are right, the Pre 2 will be less than half the price.

I like BBM too – I had to switch to BB when my Treo died recently – but there are, as they say, apps for that!
