Rogers Samsung Galaxy S Captivate officially available to pre-order

After a few days delay and a bit of teasing… Canadians can now pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate from Rogers. This will retail for $149.99 on a 3-year contract, plus those who do pre-order will be given a Bluetooth headset and entered into a contest to win some Samsung technology. In addition, the pre-order offer expires October 20th, 2010.

Go forth Canada… check out the Captivate here at Rogers
(Thanks Adam!)

    • Some speculation that Bell is getting the Desire Z. On the forums anyway.

  4. I don’t think it gives any options online for already existing customers to upgrade to this phone. The pre-order is for new customers only. Epic fail.

  5. @Mitchell Existing customers have to wait until mid-October and go to a Rogers store to upgrade. Boo-urns!

  6. AAAAND on top of that? No $30/6gb data plan available, either.

    • If you’re currently a Rogers customer and already have a smartphone, you can always add the 6GB plan to your service, this way when you upgrade in October you don’t have to worry about the data plan since you already have it. If you’re a new client I guess this procedure wouldn’t work.

    • Well, yes, but then you’ve got a data plan that expires before your phone contract expires. And what happens when your data plan expires?

  7. So I guess it’s safe to assume that Thursday, October 21st is the launch day.

It’s now marked in my calendar! ;)

  8. So, how much is this headset worth?
I can pay $149 and get the phone and headset from Rogers in a bout a month (hopefully), or buy a Vibrant right right now at Best Buy or Costco for $99 and get a $75 gift certificate to buy a bluetooth headset (or anything else they have for sale).

I avoided the Vibrant up until now because I did not want to go back to Bell. But at this point, as they both (in my experience) have equally bad customer relations management skills and their plan rates all appear to be within spitting distance of each other (even with a Rogers bundle discount), there is absolutely no reason to hold out for the captivate.

    • Really, the only thing Rogers has going for it right now is the $30/6gb data plan. And an EDGE network to fall back on outside of 3G coverage. If Bell could offer me the data plan, I think right now is time for me to start thinking about switching to Bell.

    • Bell had and still offers the 6gb plan. Just saw it again recently.

    • @frankp – the $30/6gb plan is only available for the iPhone on Bell, not all smartphones.

  10. So basically from the redboard it states that existing customers don’t have the pre-order options, it’s for new only. Well. Uh. I don’t get a chance to win and get a nice new bluetooth?

Have a year left on my contract.. guess I am SOL.

    • oh yeah forgot the 6gb plan too. I have a Pearl so I have the bb 6gb plan. Since the smartphone equivalent isn’t being offered on the pre-order it probably won’t be around when I switch over and I can’t continue to use my BB 6gb…. sigh.

    • I’m pretty sure you can use the Smartphone 6GB plan with your pearl instead of the Blackberry 6GB plan and that way it can be used on the captivate when you get it. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

  12. No pre-order for us existing customers? plus I’m being told that my plan is outdated so they wont upgrade me, I need to sign a new plan? psh, bell is sounding better and better. plus, my understanding is they will give you bill credits to offset your early termination fees from rogers………just saying.
I’d have considered this option back in Aug if I didn’t think the vibrant looked so much like an iphone 3g. I want the captivate, it’s a unique looking phone, doesn’t look like every other touchscreen option.

    • I fully agree. I’m in the exact same boat.
Stuck with 8 months to go on my contract and although I prefer the look of the Captivate over the iphony-looking Vibrant, I’m tired of waiting and the Vibrant has FFC and FM radio… choices choices..

Where did you hear about Bell offering credit on signing? If I can offset my cancellation fee I’d get the Vibrant and be done with it. I can just buy a rubber case to be hide the frame. :)

  13. So what’s the advantage of pre-ordering as opposed to waiting when it’s really available for sure?
The actual release date is just speculation at this point…

    • A pre-order means that you will get your device shipped on launch day (or maybe shipped to arrive on launch day? I dunno) and you don’t have to go to a store to get one. It also means that you don’t get stuck in the “will the stores have enough stock?” lottery, which I could TOTALLY see happening.

  15. I guess Rogers re-post the pre-order because Rogers lots of people are giving up waiting and bought Vibrant from Bell. could it be true?

  16. seriously you are worried about not having a data plan for the last month of your 3 year contract that you likely wont have till the end. here is a thought just get the 6 gig plan now then get it agian when the iphone 5 comes out and they release the deal again or wait for the iphone 6 . get it

  18. @Primus
No need to change your 6GB Blackberry data plan just because you are getting a non BB.
The Blackberry versions of the data plans can be used on all phones. BB data plans are preferred by many because of this. Just tell the CSR or sales person that you still plan to use your BB. Your BB data plan will work fine…
