WIND to launch the Android HTC Magic+?

Well this is a nice turn of events! We knew that WIND was looking at adding devices to their lineup but this is a pleasant surprise. How would Wind customers (or potential customers) like to get their hands on an Android device? According Wind subscriber Zafeer who logged into his account to find an image of a new phone… so how does the HTC Magic+ sound to you?

Recently the HTC Magic was put through the ringer over at Rogers as it needed an urgent 911 fix… all is well now and they eventually re-branded the Magic as the “Magic+” and included the new Sense UI. If this image is real you can bet you’ll see the Magic available on WIND soon!

  1. Not to be the bearer of bad news, but judging from the picture on the WIND website, that looks like a non-Sense UI HTC Magic.

Since WIND uses AWS and so does T-Mobile in the US, the carrier of the myTouch 3G (US version of the Magic) this could very well just be the same phone.

Which has possibly could have some drawbacks and maybe some advantages.

For one if it is in fact the myTouch 3G then it might be preloaded with Android 1.6 and will be later upgraded to Android 2.1.

Bad new is if it is the myTouch 3G it means this is the 32B version of the phone meaning it has lower RAM the the Rogers HTC Branded Magic. Which then implies no Sense UI.

  3. The “urgent 911 fix” was actually urgent because Rogers had been unable to provide upgrade to the firmware.
The worst part is how Rogers dealt with it: by screwing their customers, as those that used a different firmware got their service cut off, and the firmware Rogers provided for upgrade with even more crappy.

  4. I agree with Sined here. I would be very surprised if HTC whipped out an AWS compatible “Magic+” when there is already an AWS compatible model south of the border. That 2.1 update would definitely make help make this otherwise dated phone a bit more appealing though. I think this will be a good boost for Wind.

  6. Didn’t HTC just launch an updated version of the mytouch 3G? One with improved ram, and a 3.5 mm jack?

  7. If this is the answer to the Nexus One cries from the people, then I am sad. Personally, I always thought the Magic/MyTouch 3G was a POS. I think that Wind should focus on promoting the Android marketplace be opened to Camada first too…

  11. That picture is definitely real. Many people have reported getting this.

That said, it may not have anything to do with them releasing the phone. I don’t think we have enough proof of this.

  12. I went into a Wind Mobile store in Toronto yesterday and asked if the rumour of an Android phone coming to Wind this month was true. The clerk smiled and said “I can’t verify that yet.” I pushed for more information and got the same “can’t verify that yet” with a smile response each time. I got the distinct impression that an Android is expected sometime in March.
