Head of Facebook’s Canadian division is leaving the company

Jordan Banks

Jordan Banks, the head of Facebook Canada, has announced that he’s leaving the social media giant. Banks, who oversees Instagram as well as Facebook’s Canadian operations, announced the move in an internal post that has not yet been made public.

“After seven of the most incredible years imaginable, it was with mixed emotions that earlier this week I announced my decision to leave Facebook. I have happily agreed to stay in my job until late August so I can help in identifying and onboarding my successor,” said Banks in the internal memo, provided to BNN.

“This is something I’ve been kicking around with Carolyn as well as Faith and our kids going back to last year when I started thinking seriously about what might be next for me,” continued Banks in his post.

Banks has been with Facebook’s Canadian division since 2010 when the company only had a small office in Toronto. Facebook now has Canadian offices in Ottawa, Montreal and Vancouver. Last year, the social networking giant moved into a new office in Toronto’s MaRS Discovery District.

Facebook currently has 22 million active monthly users in Canada, while Instagram has 8.5 million users.

When Facebook moved into its new MaRS Discovery District office, MobileSyrup discussed the future of the social network in Canada with Banks.
