Here’s how to roll back to iOS 8 from iOS 8.0.1

Apple yesterday celebrated the release of iOS 8.0.1, the first iOS 8 update since the operating system was released to the public last week.

The bug was supposed to fix a host of issues, and bring some improvements to certain features, like Reachability and Ask To Buy. Unfortunately, it also broke some major functions of the device including Touch ID and cellular services.

Apple pulled iOS 8.0.1 (both OTA updates and the IPSW firmware file) and promised 8.0.2 within a few days. That hasn’t happened just yet, but Apple has published advice on how you can fix your phone in the mean time.

To reinstall iOS 8:

  • Conncet to iTunes
  • Back up your iPhone
  • Download the relevant file from this page
  • Select that file by pressing either ‘Option’ and then ‘Check for Update’ (Mac) or ‘Shift’ and ‘Check for Update’
  • Click update and your phone will do the rest
