Apple: App Store sales topped $10 Billion in 2013

appstore

Apple’s App Store is available in 155 countries and houses over 1 million available apps for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users. Apple just announced that customers spent over $10 billion in the App Store in 2013, with $1 billion coming in December alone. Apple also pointed out that December was “the most successful month in App Store history” with over 3 billion app downloads.

During WWDC 2013 back in July, Apple declared they’ve paid out a total of $10 billion to developers, but the number has now risen to $15 billion.

Apple’s Eddy Cue stated “We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store. The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”

    WHERE?!
WHERE ARE THE FANDROID FANBOIS NOW?

    • cs098

      No one cares?

What does profit and sales have to do with how good a product is anyways?

    • alphs22

Because it determines which platform developers will prioritize, which will continue to be iOS for the time being.

    • cs098

The fact that there are a lot of android exclusives timed and otherwise disproves that.

It’s not always about the money, some devs prefer more users than money and android offers more apis to create more advanced apps.

There are more than one factor than just profits for devs.

    • alphs22

What Android exclusives are you talking about?

No, it’s not all about the money. But as app developer, when you have limited money, time, and resources to get an app out to start making money – would you prioritize the ecosystem that makes more money or less money?

      Obvious.

    • WatDah

Haters gonna hate, buddy. Haters gonna hate. Jealousy, hypocrisy, and bitterness are all part of human nature.

    • cs098

      Launchers, emulators among other things.

Actually it depends on the dev, again you might prioritize more users over profits. That was my point, it’s not necessarily obvious.

    • Noah Roesler

Apple only has one source for apps and android has many, not just the Play Store, when we count android apps purchased do we take into account all the different app sources? Including side loading apps.

    • barrist

      Oh you mean piracy?

    • Noah Roesler

Cm installer, Triangle away… Even some inappropriate apps… Hehe

  • Columbo

Candy Crush sure is lucrative. Imagine if all that money had gone to do some actual good instead of to Apple’s Cayman Islands tax havens.

    • alphs22

Do you also complain about movies? Sports? TV shows?

Entertainment will always be around regardless of how bitter you are.

    • Columbo

Few companies hoard money the way Apple does.

    • alphs22

So you’re just bitter that Apple is a successful company?

    • Columbo

I said hoard money, not make money. They hardly invest or innovate at all anymore. Look at the Apple products on the market today, exact same as 3 years ago with slightly better specs and maybe some new colours. And all that aside, they could at least afford to pay their factory workers a living wage. $10 billion in apps alone and the people making their phones still work in sweat shops. I guess that’s our modern standard for success.

    • WatDah

You mean like what everyone else is doing too? $10 billion in Apps sales, that means the developers are making a ton of money. You know, sharing the wealth. But I guess over at the Android side people don’t really get what that means. They don’t make enough money doing Apps for Android.

    • alphs22

      Your hate is showing.

You’re talking about another company entirely – Foxconn, who manufactures iPhones, iPads, etc. for Apple. Funny enough, Apple actually hired a labour auditor who released the report and pressured Foxconn to ease up working hours and give them higher wages.

  • Paul Branchaud

Congrats Apple. What do you want, a cookie?

  • shamedroid

look how pissed droid fanbois are lolol

    • Paul Branchaud

Where’s the anger, vitriol, and/or outrage? Or should we wait for your questions three before we can cross the bridge to the next topic?

  • AReid

That’s amazing! I personally know 100′s of people with Apple products(myself included) but I don’t know 1 person that has ever bought an app.
