R10-red-1
Now that the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 have successfully launched in Canada we look forward to their next device. The “R-Series” is rumoured to follow the Z and Q, but this will be an entry-level device that resembled the Curve pricing. The R10 in white has leaked a couple times before – see here and here – but now it’s popped up in a stunning red version. This physical QWERTY will be released sometime in Q3, priced between $300 – $400, and will have a similar display to the Q10 (resolution of 720 x 720).

I want Blackberry to succeed, but this is butt ugly (mostly just the color). The white variant looked alright though (leaked awhile ago).

    • Ra’id Ahmed Ismail

The white variant can be seen in the back.

It’s also most likely to be a low end model to replace the curve

Half the problem is the black bezel surrounded by all that colour. It just doesn’t work well. The white one in the background looks better, but not very good. They should stick with all black. You get away with a black bezel in a colour touch phone, where the colour real-estate is confined to the edges.

    • Plazmic Flame

Definitely agree with that but let’s remember that this is going to be for the budget minded person that wants to get into or stay within the BB ecosystem and not break the bank.

As long as they have black, white and silver colors, everything else is bonus.

    • WireNow

Agreed. Even the curve series had a quality “feel” and “build quality” representative of a solid brand. This looks really cheap. Let’s hope that, if it is the test unit, the actual production units don’t look like this.

  • kroms

Man. that is one ugly color scheme.

  • Bbry=yuck

Nasty nasty nasty. Not just the color either…

  • dannyR

Candy-apple red is for teeny-boppers and teeny-boppers don’t want grampa’s old fashioned buttons on their phones. Candy colours are for touch devices.

Old school enterprise buyers prefer black.

    • ToniCipriani

And corporate enterprise can afford the Q10.

    • Whocares

They may be able to afford it, but their not very bright if they actually spend the money to but it. At least we can all laugh at the few in public that will be unfortunate enough to make that mistake. Lol.

I love red and its many variations witnessed by my many “red” shirts. I love too that a beloved Canadian technology company is seemingly making a comeback.

As someone with a past corporate life, I hated the 212 different versions of BB devices (gross exaggeration people) that I had to support as a technician. But then, *everyone* started making multi-versions of the same device (read Samsung) and being successful. As a proud Canadian, I say go BB, go!

With my mini (not ultra) W8Pro notebook and Android smartphone, I’d really like to support us by getting a revamped Playbook that’d play nice with these 2 devices and support Outlook and other non-native BB apps, like Word, etc.

    I live in hope. Hmmm…..

  • Sean Walton

That is one UGLY device. I like BB but that is trash.

  • Kenny G

I don’t get it. Isn’t the Q10 already like an entry level smartphone? Do they really need more BB in color to succeed?

  • BlackBerryBlink

yah it looks like their new curve.. so this will be the more budget minded BB i assume.

  • PT

The Q10 is not even worth $300. A curve version should be half of the former.

  • EvanKrosney

That keyboard reminds me an awful lot like that of the HTC Status…

  • hardy83

Since this is a cheap version, is there any rumor on what the internal hardware specs are?
It’s obviously not going to be what’s in the Z and Q10.

    • Whocares

Why not? The z&q are already using 2 year old hardware? They purchase the SoC for like 10 bucks. Really cheap.

  • Louisboi514

These people that leak photos need higher resolution cameras

    • Whocares

Blame blackberry. Exif data says it was taken from the z10. Lol.

  • Norman Fong

    This actually looks pretty cute

    • sicsicpuppy

I would strongly suggest an eye exam

    • Whocares

And a head exam while he/she’s at it…

  • Henry0623

The white looked absolutely horrible but the red one doesn’t look that bad

    • Whocares

They both look equally as bad. But it’s par for the course coming from bbry.

  • Bbryisghey

Compared to any other current smartphone, yes the q10 should be considered entry level. Bbry doesn’t seem to understand that however. They will soon enough though.
