Samsung Canada stated in an email to us that the “The coolest Samsung smartphone will be coming to Canada soon”, but at the time gave no indication of what or when. Tonight, both the Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich were revealed and looking incredibly impressive.
The official press release stated that this 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED display beast will be “available in USA, Europe, and Asia beginning in November and then rolled out globally”. No word of Canada anywhere. However, posted on the official Google Mobile blog is a note from Andy Rubin, the “Father of Android” himself, stating that “Starting in November, Galaxy Nexus will be available in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. Check out the Nexus website for a product tour and more info.”
No insight into which carrier(s) will be releasing this but November is in a few weeks!!

Really??? What are you not impressed about? Some specs aren’t as great as the SGSII, but as it’s a pure Android handset, that’ll make up for it, imo.

I guess me was expecting a quad core, 1080p display, [insert other outrageous spec here]. I personally am excited it could be this or the Galaxy S2 lte. I might lean towards this (unless Rogers doesnt pick it up) because all Google phones have dev support but i just wished it had external memory slot and that is my gripe which is to say, a pretty small one.

It’ll probably be unlocked, so it doesn’t matter who carries it if you are willing to buy outright.
Further it appears the Samsung rep mentioned there will be 2 models, HSPA+ and LTE. So HSPA+ will be ideal for now, but if you want LTE, the network in Canada probably won’t be ready until next year nationally.

For once Canada is a prime destination for the Nexus phones. The Nexus S must’ve been pretty successful here in Canada for Google to finally change their mind.
I’m pretty sure us Nexus S users will get this upgrade soon and we should all thank the developer community at XDA for that

Once this is confirmed for Canada and pre-orders are up (if they decide to do that). Once released, saying good-bye to my current smartphone. It has been a good 1 and a half+ years with my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10! I gotta end this relationship soon. I need more in life… The Galaxy Nexus fills that void.

So let’s say I’m on Telus, and I feel the Galaxy Nexus is asmarter choice than the GS2X, how would I go about getting one if Telus isn’t getting right off the bat?
Any chance I can buy it unlocked from the lucky carrier that’s getting it, let’s say Bell? Is there a fee for using a competitor’s unlocked phone on Telus?
Thanks!

It will be sold unlocked and unsubsidized by google or some partner like Best Buy etc is my guess. Nexus S was unlocked even though each carrier had it.

if your carrier doesn’t have it, you can upgrade to something that your carrier does sell – say an iphone 4s, and then you can sell that device ebay for more money than you paid. then purchase an unlocked one with the pocketed cash.

I’d like to assume that the Big 3 are going to carry it, even though Rogers had the Nexus S first initially. It’s either this or that new Moto RAZR that is making a splash.

Nexus is 1.2 not 1.5Ghz???Was I expecting too much? …Don’t get me wrong, I will consider it as a potencial device to acquire. What about the new OS? How will a single core cpu handle Android 4.0?
I guess that 1.5Ghz X2 will be installed in Galaxy Note. (that “hybrid” device with a massive 5.3″ screen)

I heard one reviewer saying the fact that it is only 1.2 instead of 1.5 or anything isn’t a big deal because the code is written for the dual core processor so that is how you get the fast speedy processor. If you want to check it out, refer here: http://youtu.be/6y4Qglmb_cg

Overall it is nice and I will probably get this. Before the Nexus S was announced I wanted the Nexus One, so I bought the HTC Desire as an alternative. Now I’m stranded on the Isle of Froyo. This phone is all about having quick updates from Google and that’s why I’m 95% certain I’ll get it.
Not without its let down’s though. 1.2GHz dual cores disappoints because 1.5′s are the current ‘wow’ feature on high end phones. The biggest thing I was hoping for was an HDMI input. How do you make the jump with 1080p without the ability to show it off on a big screen anywhere you go?
BUT THE ABSOLUTELY BIGGEST SHOCK: PowerVR SGX540 GPU. A four year old graphic processor in the ‘biggest’ announcement of the year from Android.
Stunned. Speechless.

Yeah, to me 8mp is just jpeg bloat anyway. I have my HTC Desire’s camera turned down from 5mp to 3mp for that reason. Its all downsized when you upload it to social networks anyway, and I don’t really need high res detail of my friends pimples.

and from what i seen the new OS is and will be the best out there for awhile

All I want to know is price points. HOW MUCH DAMN IT. Just bought a Nexus S at the beginning of the year so there is nooooo way it would be cost effective to do an upgrade. So will probably have to do a straight buy. So need to know if its going to be $499, $599 or $699!! Or somewhere in there! =(

Does it make sense that Rogers is getting this? There have been no announcements for Canadian carriers where as in the states and China, carries have accounced.
Why not Canada? Probably Rogers wants to sell their quota of RAZRs before opening up the floodgates???
What you think?

People need to stop comparing the Galaxy SII it only has a 480p display. Plus the Galaxy SII HD LTE is coming out later on. If you want something just get the Galaxy Note, if you want some crazy a*s power and graphics.

While the Galaxy Nexus (Prime <—still prefer this) looks damn HAWt and sexy!! I will not blindly jump into it like mindless iSheep do into their crApple products. It's my first choice and I will most certainly give it a demo opportunity, but the physical size of the phone could potentially be a deal breaker for me. I already thought the S2 was enormous and to find out this beast is even bigger was disappointing. I truly hope that it doesn't feel big as has been claimed thus far, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

The Galaxy Nexus is 1.2 cm longer, 1.8mm wider and 0.5mm thicker than the regular Galaxy S 2. You can compare it with different phones here:
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-GALAXY-Nexus_id5595/size
Battery life may not be so good, though:
http://www.wired.co.uk/reviews/mobile-phones/2011-10/samsung-galaxy-nexus-mobile-phone-review
The Galaxy Nexus is what the Galaxy S II X from Telus should have been. The extra bulk and poorer battery life are offset by some real advantages, such as the higher resolution screen.

I’m at a crossroads now. I’m at the point of buying a new phone. Been waiting a long time to get the Nexus S which I can get for $350. Question is, do I wait until this is released? Price might be way too high at first like it was for the S. Are most of the features discussed hardware or software? Like the face recognition, camera,? I know Nexus S will get ICS right after it’s released but will I be missing out on a lot of the features available by going with Nexus S?

DUD does have a bit of a point though. the iPhone may have 20% market share, but thats 20% market share spread over 5 different phones, whereas there are a shitload of different android phones.
There are more iPhone 4 phones sold than any other android phone alone could ever claim.
Android is the mcdonalds of smartphones, there everywhere, they are buggier, and they have more features. iOS takes the good features and polishes them.
And no im not an apple fanboy, ive had a blackberry, and a nexus S up until now. Just bought my iPhone 4S. The phone is great, the apps actually work. The only app that i have had any problems with (crash) is iCall which has not been updated yet to support iOS 5.
On my nexus S every app on the phone has crashed at some point in time, not having this issue with iOS. If ICS addresses this fragmentation issue, then i may come back after my 3 yr contract is up, or even try out WP7 i have a feeling that once nokia gets into the game, WP7 sales are going to increase.

I hate to be a pessimist, but does this not seem like a hype inducing but very carefully written statement? He says it will be available in those locations starting in November. That could simply mean they intend on starting with the US and proceeding out to other countries (Canada) over a number of months. The S was available in Canada 4 months after STARTING in the UK/US.
