SaskTel releases the Samsung Galaxy Gio

If the Samsung Galaxy SII on SaskTel is not for you, perhaps the scaled down Samsung Galaxy Gio is then. This is not as powerful as the GSII, but the price reflects it. The Gio runs Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread, 800 Mhz processor, a 3.2-inch touchscreen (480 x 320 resolution),3 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and ability to create a Wi-Fi hotspot… this can be yours for $249.99 outright and slides to $29.99 on a 3-year.

  1. This phone was selling for like $79 bucks last week at Failue Shop and Zellers. What’s a joke!

  3. Got mine from FS last week for 79$. I have a company with 6 employees who all need phones so this is perfect if one of them should break their iPhones! I tell them this is their replacement should they lose or break their iPhones, i am sure that makes them extra careful.

    • Why this is still a pretty respectable phone it’s specs are almost equal to the galaxy S line in everything but screen size and screen type.

    • @Sean

No it isn’t. This has much weaker specs than the Galaxy S, even has a previous gen processor (ARMv6 MSM7227T). Think of it as the Samsung version of the HTC Wildfire.

  4. i don’t get why prepaid prices are ridiculously lower than no-term prices. Sure, it’s better for the customer, but there should just be one low price instead of tricking people. As for SaskTel…

To pay $249.99 outright for this phone is a big waste of money when the REGULAR Bell prepaid price is $79.99 at Future Shop. Paying $29.99 for the phone on a three-year contract is also a waste of money, as freedom is worth much more than $50. For people like me who don’t want Bell, unlocking is very inexpensive and worthwhile.

As an aside, while i’m not a Rogers or Fido fan, both have at least one Android at $0 on a two-year. It’s still a big commitment, but it’s at least a baby step in the right direction. So why can’t SaskTel sell the Gio at $0 on a two-year?

Overall, although i don’t live in Saskatchewan, i’m sure that many people there get services from SaskTel. i’m just hoping that none of them get deceived with this overpriced, entry-level Gio.

    • If you are friends with the guy behind the counter, the Gio can be $0, and on Bell you can put it on a voice plan. So for nothing up front you can get it for 20$ a month and use WiFi. Got it for my son at the Kiosk in Victoria Square in Regina.

    • Well actually 69.99 but that deal’s done and good luck finding any stock. I have a raincheck but they told me even with that I might not get one within the 60 days validity.

Future Shop dropped it to 79.99 regular though.

  7. Why is SaskTel chring 250? Why does Bell? Why dooes Virgin only chrge 150? Its a decent little phone if you cn get it for sub-200 (should be easy enough) and its inexpensive enough to put it on a supertab and just leave whenever the f**k you feel like it.

    • Matt you can just buy the Bell model and use it on Virgins network without unlocking the phone. I got 2 of the bell gios running on Virgin sims without unlocking them.
