The next Windows Phone 7 device to officially come to Canada is the Dell Venue Pro. This will be released by Rogers and from what we are hearing from a few tipsters is that the date is tentatively scheduled for March 17th 2011. In addition, earlier reports from a internal doc that we posted showed the prices to be $599.99 no-contract and the 3-year to be $149.99. However, we are now hearing that the no-contract price could be as low as $449.99 and the 3-year might ring in at $99.99. We’ll follow up shortly with confirmed pricing.

Update: We are now hearing that the Venue Pro might be available on March 24th.

(Thanks tipsters!)

Would this same phone be compatible on Wind or Mobilicity assuming you’re able to unlock it?

    • AL

I believe both Wind and Mobilicity use different 3G bands, so while you’d be able to use the phone for voice, you won’t be able to use the three-gee’s.

    • A. Carmine

No, it will most likely not be compatible with Winds network. If you want a Dell Venue Pro that works with Wind, you’ll need to get the one from Dell USA.

    • TheCyberKnight

      @A.Carmine

You think Rogers uses a different hardware version than the US model?

    • Chris Marle

      @TheCyberKnight

The one that is out in the US is the model using AWS 3G bands.

    • 8675309

yes but you wont get 3g support unless you import the t-mobile ver.

  • TheCyberKnight

Technically, yes, it does support AWS/UMTS 1700,2100.
Would also work on Videotron in Quebec.

    • TheCyberKnight

From Dell specification page, supported bands are:

      UMTS 900/1700/2100
      GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
      HSDPA 7.2Mbps/HSUPA 5.76 Mbps

@blueboy. i dont think any wp7 devices are on wind/mobi bands

    a bit off topic…

for those running WP7. how are google services on your device? (gmail, talk, gcal, reader)

if i were to get any WP7 handset this would probably be the one (until Nokia comes out with theres)

    • jellmoo

I have a Focus on Rogers.

Gmail: Overall, kind of “meh”. No problems really, but the experience is designed with Hotmail in mind. If you have a lot of different labels and sub-labels, it can be painful.

      Talk: Haven’t used.

Calendar: This one works well for me. I had no trouble importing or editing. Do note that I tend to organize and make changes vis iCal, so results may vary.

Reader: There is no official Reader client yet, though there are several 3rd party equivalents in the Marketplace. I haven’t had any issues myself, but I’m not big into using a reader on my smartphone.

Honestly, the Venue Pro has been my favorite in regards to form factor since I first saw it. The one issue I have is that it does not feature expandable memory, and everything I’ve seen seems to indicate that Rogers is only getting the 8gb model, so storage may be an issue for heavy users.

  • blackprince

I wonder if I can make this work on Bell once unlocked. This would be the only phone to get me to jump before Nokia WP7 phones come out.

    • TheCyberKnight

      @blackprince
      Should work. Nothing prevents it.

  • Bijan

@blackprince it’ll work, but only on 3g (no GSM to fall-back on)

  • Tony

The Dell is upgradeable but you just void the warrenty doing it. Considering that I have 5 GB left on a 16GB I think 8GB is way to small.

    • jellmoo

Are you certain? Everything I’ve seen seems to indicate that the device won’t work if try to replace the SD card it comes with.

  • seller

the SD card needs to be microsoft certified.. just like the focus… i beleive sandisk memory is supported..

  • Tony

wmpoweruser did it and it works just fine. It voids the warrenty but it can be swaped for bigger memory

  • Brian

I have a dell venue pro that i bought from the states and it works on mobilicity however if you are buying it in the states please make sure you buy it from T – mobile but it has to be unlocked the reason why it works on T-mobile only is because T- mobile and mobilicity are the two only companies at the moment using the newest frequency called AWS, with bands 1700/2100. My ohone works like a magic. Its way better, classier and durable because of the curved Gorrilla Glass than the Iphone its the type of phone that if you put it downsome like at a bar the person sitting next to you wanna know whats that phone . Its stand out in a good way.

Additional bands can be unlocked via the EM menu. To get into the EM diagnostic app (##634#), tap Protocol, enter the password *#6336# and then tap Active Feature, fix in bands and the following can be toggled on and off.

    GSM 850,900,1800,1900
    WCDMA I MT 2000
    WDCDM II PCS 1900
    WCDMA IV 1700
    WCDMA V 850
    WCDMA VIII 900

What I don’t see is the 2100 that wind/mobilicity needs so you might still need to buy it from the States. I can get on Rogers just fine from mine, but the inverse on the Rogers version may not be true. Once again the Canadian version takes longer to get here, costs more, isn’t as good as the US version etc etc.

  • Peter

I work at Rogers in the engineering department and we have been testing this phone for a couple months now it will be compatible to wind and mobilicity we are going to lock it , but in a few weeks there is going to be an unlock code you will not need to buy a phone in states there will be no Canadian version that’s would be really stupid the ONLY thing Canadian is the price if you have any question just call Rogers and we will be happy to info you and clarify these rumors for you =)

    • Willy White

Peter, is the 17th accurate? if not what date does Rogers expect to release the Venue Pro?

    • Paul Bousquet

      FROM QUEBEC
Just received my DVP unlocked . actvated from TM
Beautifull phone but does not work on any carrier except VIDEOTRON but no internet.
Does anybody knopw how to get it to work, ?
Would of like to get it to work on BELL

      Disappointed Paul

  • Bijan

So they’re not releasing it tomorrow. I called and the staff has no idea, so that means nothing at least for the next 10 days or so.

Looking at buying one from the states- fathamburger, did you get a t-mobile one? i don’t care where i get it or who it runs on, as long as i can use it in canada- best avenue of attack?

  • R-unit

Didnt release today so when is it really coming out?

  • Chris

Nothing here yet on March 24th. Rogers Customer Care hasn’t heard of the device and neither has technical support. Too bad.

  • Chris2

I’m still waiting for it. I never liked rumors.

  • tblazers

    where is this phone???????????

  • Eddy

    Still waiting

  • Chris2

    Still waiting.

    Still waiting.

need to find this guy from the posts above
“I work at Rogers in the engineering department and we have been testing this phone for a couple months now it will be compatible to wind and mobilicity we are going to lock it , but in a few weeks there is going to be an unlock code you will not need to buy a phone in states there will be no Canadian version that’s would be really stupid the ONLY thing Canadian is the price if you have any question just call Rogers and we will be happy to info you and clarify these rumors for you =)”

  • djrudiak

    Still waiting

  • Chris2

Perhaps Rogers is waiting for the NoDo update for the Dell Venue Pro before releasing it?

  • Eddy

NoDo update is already available for this phone

    what’s the holdup?

  • Chris2

I sent RogersBuzz a msg via Twitter – “Any word on the Dell Venue Pro?”. Their response: “Hi. Not at the moment.”

  • Paul Bousquet

Just got my Venue Pro from the States and is unlocked. Was with TM. Can get it to work only on Rogers but Internet does not work. Am really dissapointed, phone is AWSOME
Am curious about the above coment stating that Additional bands can be unlocked via the EM menu. To get into the EM diagnostic app (##634#), tap Protocol, enter the password *#6336# and then tap Active Feature, fix in bands and the following can be toggled on and off.

  • Emmott

… and if that apn doesnt work for you, try this one:

    APN: internet.com , username: wapuser1 , password: wap

  • chris2

So everyone is just buying it from the states instead?

  • avinkool

The Dell is upgradeable but you just abandoned the warranty accomplishing it. Considering that I accept 5 GB larboard on a 16GB I anticipate 8GB is way to small.

  • Andy

Where is the phone? I can’t seem to find it at any store or on their webpage..Where did Mobilesyrup get the info for this article?

    • chris2

It was a rumor a couple of months ago. It was reported on a few web sites but never came true. I’m still waiting for it…kind of.

  • Question

if i get contract am i going to get it unlocked?
