Google to redesign Android Market

One of the changes that Google recently made to their Android Market was establishing a 4 level of ratings for all apps. Over the next couple week Google will again be making changes, this time it’s a “significant update” to the overall design. If you have an Android running OS 1.5 you’re out of luck as the new features will only be available to those with OS 1.6 or higher.

As to what we can expect, Google stated on their blog the new features “improve merchandising of applications, streamline the browse-to-purchase experience, and make it easier for developers to distribute their applications”. You’ll see in the image they provided that there will be a new carousel on the home screen so you can scroll through features apps. In addition, to make a greater user experience apps will now be detailed on one page and a “related apps” feature. Finally, if you’re a developer they have upped the maximum size of an app to 50MB which is aimed to support “better support richer games”.

This works fine on my Rogers Samsung Galaxy Tab(Which has it’s stock firmware).

Looks nice. Though it doesn’t have the new catagories yet that some other news reports are talking about(yet).

I love that you guys fail to mention the refund timeframe is dropping from 24 hours to 15 minutes.

The update is great, but give the whole story.

    • Andrew

Yes it is a bummer, but at least they give you 15 minutes instead of Apple giving us no returns, period.

  • David Evans

Looks like they are redesigning Android Market to look a lot more like Ovi Store.

15 minutes to test out a paid app? That is insane. How can someone fully get a decent test of a product in 15 minutes? If you have to drop the refund timeframe, it should be at least an hour.

    • Andrew

And yet Apple gives you zero minutes and zero seconds…

when it runs on linux, why pay for the apps….make em yourself

i already have it on my galaxy tab… 🙂

  • Andrew

Please OH please, I hope they add the option to filter out apps from different regions. I don’t need to see the Seoul Transit system app since am in Canada. = /

There are actually a whole lot of deitlas like that to take into consideration. That is a nice level to convey up. I offer the thoughts above as common inspiration however clearly there are questions just like the one you bring up the place crucial thing will likely be working in sincere good faith. I don?t know if greatest practices have emerged round things like that, however I am positive that your job is clearly identified as a good game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a second’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.
