Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant coming to SaskTel!

Residents of Saskatchewan must be thrilled that SaskTel is launching their new 3G network. Testing is currently happening and they are planning to go live on August 16th. SaskTel has already stated they will carry the BlackBerry Bold 9700, BlackBerry Pearl 9100, Nokia 7230, Samsung Gravity 3, Samsung Gravity Touch, Nokia 6350 and a Novatel MC998D USB data stick.

But what about an Android? Well, looking at this SaskTel dealer website reveals the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant will be making it’s mark soon. No official release date or pricing but what a great device to intro as your first Android: OS 2.1, 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera (records 720p HD videos), Wi-Fi, A-GPS. Nice work SaskTel!

  1. Almost makes me wish I was on Sasktel and not Rogers…but not quite. Hopefully Rogers launches their Galaxy S Captivate soon. It won’t be cool to see people around town sporting Vibrants while I have to wait for Rogers to launch a decent Android…

  3. Nico Sasktel at launch will have more coverage than Rogers,Rogers has known for a long time this was coming but they sat on the side lines and came up with Chatir.Bell/Telus both have roaming agreements with Sasktel.

  4. Best phone lineup for a launch ever. They pretty much have a phone to fit everyone’s needs.

  5. How can a regional carrier have a much better phone line up than Wind?

  6. SaskTel will not officially recognize this device though they did say that Jump.ca was given approval to put up the device list. They would not confirm/deny Aug 16th,

  7. Micheal Ye, it is not so much whether it’s a regional or national carrier. You gotta look at the number of subscribers. SaskTel has 500,000+ customers while Wind has only 100,000 (approximate). That translates into more buying power, which the manufacturers look more favourably upon.

  8. By the looks of that picture, Sasktel is also going to carry the brand new BlackBerry Curve 9300 3G, which is also HSPA… Hopefully its cheaper than their overpriced Curve 8530.

  11. SaskTel is now again (IMHO) one of the best cell phone providers in Canada. I always did like their service and their coverage was always excellent. But their device linup for years has been suspect. Now, with their new proposed lineup I can’t knock them anymore. :-) .. Except for the I-phone, which I don’t really care about, but if they don’t want to lose a bunch of customers to Telus/Virgin on Aug 16th they really need that device.

  13. @Arshad: Telus launched the HTC Desire. No need for them to have that and the Galaxy S.

  14. Awesome!! Finally an Android phone! I’ve been waiting for one. Smart move SaskTel! I guess I don’t have to switch carriers anymore… which I’ve been thinking about doing because of SaskTel’s poor device line ups.

  15. Yes I have the Galaxy from Sasktel, and while I’m happy with the phone, Sasktel’s ’3G’ coverage leaves a lot to be desired. They focused on putting up towers but not on actual signal quality.
Walk into any building with one and the phone turns into a pretty device with lots of toys but no service ( no data ).
Thankfully, I have a wireless AP at home, or I would never get updates.

Get going Sasktel, or you will lose this new market to other providers.
