Excited for the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant to launch in Canada? This is hitting Bell on August 6th and is apparently exclusive. However… thanks to one of our tipsters for letting us know that Bell’s sub-brand Virgin Mobile will also be making this available to their members. Taking a look at this screenshot shows that employees are currently taking online training to master the device. No word on price points or an official release date… but know it’s coming soon.
I remember back in December of last year when Robert Blumenthal, the head of Virgin Mobile Canada, said that in 2010 we’ll a “very different Virgin” and “a great expansion in our portfolio and us being able to offer higher-value devices and services. Where we had been traditionally lower down in the marketplace, we’ll be expanding to realize our true potential”.
Not sure exactly what it is… possibly Bell taking them over or more wireless competition but clearly Virgin has stepped up their game with their lineup: HTC Legend, iPhone 4, BlackBerry 9700… soon the Vibrant.
damn… now I want to wait for this instead of bell.

I heard rumours that they’re adding international texting at no cost as well. Any truth to this?

certainly worth considering…my contract expires in 2 weeks and I’m debating whether I should go for this, or the HTC Desire…hmmm…any suggestions people?

I’d like to see their plans become more competitive but their line-up is definitely improved over the last few months.

If anyone knows when this is going to be released let me know. I would much rather give Virgin my money than Bell. I have my heart set on the Galaxy S, but I hate Bell more than I hate rogers. Which is a lot.

Any chance we’ll see the phone available for less than full price on a 2 year plan?
The 6 GB plan is available with Virgin on 2 year plans, but discounts for smartphones with Virgin only exist for 3 year.

“Virgin Mobile Canada is a cellular telephone company that was launched on March 1, 2005 as a joint venture between Virgin Group and Bell Canada. It is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Bell Mobility.”

i ask only because “bell took over virgin mobile”…

Well that’s unfortunate, but I do like Virgin’s plans. So here’s hoping that they will release the Galaxy S sooner rather than later.

I’ve been a Virgin customer for many years now. They have good customer service and, being on Bell’s network, great coverage – and now 3G!
Virgin’s $20/month pre-paid includes 200 minutes, voice mail, unlimited inbound text and more. And no secret fees! I dont know of any other plan that can match that.
Virgin currently has a promotion: $30/month for 6G of data. That too is hard to beat.
I just wish they offered a pay-as-you-go data service (say $10/G, good for 3 months, with roll over if you purchase more G before expiry) Are you listening Virgin?
Those looking for an inexpensive way to get into Android, have a look at Virgin’s HTC Legend ($349 outright!)

I have a question re buying unlocked with pre-paid service vs. vs. prepaid term contracts. If you buy an unlocked phone from Bell on August 6, this means you can only use it on Bell or Virgin Mobile in Canada, T-Mobile in the US and whatever CDMA/3G service is in Europe. If you are spending most of your life in Canada and don’t travel much, does it really make sense to buy an unlocked phone? It would be nice to not be locked into a plan for 3-years but when the next latest and greatest phone comes up for sale, whether you are on pre-paid or on a term contract, you will have to buy the phone outright at full price anyhow. I ask because I haven’t been on a cellular plan for some time. Is the cost of the phone and pre-paid really that much better than a term contract?

I want to go with the Galaxy S unlocked NOW and go on a Virgin Mobile plan. I’m not sure if it will work but, their data plan is the best right now for my area. If they’d just go ahead and release the Galaxy S on Virgin I’d be all set. Hurry up Virgin mobile!! I need a new phone now!
I’ve been with them on pay as you go for two years and LOVE their customer service!

i’ve been a virgin mobile customer for more than 4 yrs. You can rely on their services that can provide you the cheapest plans for the samsung galaxy s vibrant. I can only say that their plans monthly is way cheaper than bell and roger put combined.

I purchased a VMC. samsung, Galaxy S. Black phone in August.
When my phone rings, a green & red dot comes up – when I press the green dot (thinking this is how to answer it – nothing happens.
Also, could you please send me an instruction book on this phone? I would really appreciate it. I am an “older” person and not as savvy as the younger people (like teaching an “old” dog, new tricks.
I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you.
