Late last week we let you know that Rogers new discount brand “Chatr” was set to launch on July 21st but then for some reason got delayed. The easy answer was due to Mobilicity causing an stir but we’re hearing it was actually due to a billing related issue. Perhaps we’ll never know.
Thanks to our tipsters for letting us know that Rogers new discount “Chatr” brand is apparently ready to turn the green light on effective Wednesday, July 28th. We received an internal doc and it sounds like everything should be in place at retail locations by the 26th. In addition, they’ve come up with a catchy name for the in-store reps… they are formally now called “Chatalysts”. Read on…
“With the launch of Chatr coming up real soon on Wednesday, July 28th, here is a short run down of what our store’s status should be:
1. Inventory should be received at all store locations by now, if any stores have not received their shipment, please let me know.
2. Fixtures should be received at all store locations as well, except the Ontario inline locations. They will arrive Monday, July 26th.
3. Collateral will arrive on Monday, July 26th
Online training modules and job aids will be available to access Monday, July 26th at 6am PDT
The “Chatalysts” (Chatr in-store sales support reps) will start visiting stores within the next few days to reinforce the original training and schedule any additional training your store may require.
We are looking forward to a great launch!”
(Thanks iSellPhones & d-Insider!)
Chattel-lists. Charming. Rogers should just simplify and lower their prices under their Rogers brand. These fake babykiller brands do nothing but cause trouble. $20 for a base plan for everyone, with a sliding scale for voice and data charges. Done.

Duh! They don’t want to lower their prices of their Rogers brand because that’s their “premium” service.
Or more realistically, they thoroughly enjoy ripping off consumers who are too stupid to know better so why lower prices for them when there are similar is not better services for cheaper elsewhere?
MAN I hate Canada sometimes.

This brand sucks simply because there is no data offered. If they had data it would be actually pretty decent, because where I am I can’t get Wind yet.

Data is not offered.. Just yet.. the same inside tipsters have hinted that data and expanding zones are phase 2.. with or without data chat-r will do some serious damage.

Given the way Fido have treated me over the last two months, I can’t wait to leave. Tested a Wind SIM last night & the coverage falls off two doors from my house (I’m outside their official coverage zone). I think Chatr might hold me over for a couple of months until Wind get a few more towers in place.
It pains me slightly that my money will still be going to Rogers. I wonder if they’ll be able to prevent Rogers/Fido customers porting in. I assume not.

Jon Wind has no towers, they will not sign a lease so they have none. Instead they have roof top units.. so why does that make a difference? Well if they will not commit to a lease, be it on top of a roof, retail space, even the head office is a month to month lease.. this to me begs the question.. how long are they planning on sticking around.
and before you say its cash flow, saving money I must correct you. They are paying MORE month to month than they would be if they committed to a longer term lease. Wind.. here today and gone tomorrow?

I see Rogers braking down their offerings to 2 main units.
Rogers (with data plans), Chatr (voice and text).

JR oddly I have posted this several times and it keeps getting deleted.. but Data is on the table, the tipsters have said as much so thats a no brainier. But it is aimed at the people that want to talk and text so I think they will be just fine.. It has been hinted once they begin to get customers they will add zones and or data… if anything it is going to be a interesting time for the customers.

The majority of people don’t need to be on Facebook or Twitter to insanely check what their friends are doing which is almost an illness now or an Android, furthermore most small/larger businesses are quite happy with only voice/text with no data and don’t care what G they are on as long as the phone works and has good coverage…so this brand will definitely be able to compete in the market and will take a good portion of the market share in time as only a minority hate Rogers. After over 6 months Wind is still a third rate provider flawed with massive problems including Mobilicity/PM and good luck if this changes soon…until then ChatR will be a good substitute or you can quit whining to accept there will be years before we actually have a stable industry. Many believe the Big Three are bad,so far the New entrants have only proven they are and that’s the truth…whoever says/claims the Newbies are better is smoking Pot and if you want better for the time being you will have to pay for it.

Hopefully, this time is real. And hopefully there aren’t many glitches in the launch. The back-to-school season is approaching quickly and they have to get their service ready otherwise they will miss a big chance.

I know Rogers should simply lower their rates on fido and rogers but who knows if that is going to happen. I tried wind and had poor service (not being able to make a call, billing errors on pay before + more) i returned it even with a $150 credit.
Does anyone know where their stores will be in downtown Toronto, as I am interested in trying it out at launch?1 Please help.
Thank you.
My opinion is this, yes it sucks they have to create another fake brand to offer these prices but it is better than nothing at all. If solo (bell) and telus (koodo or new brand from telus) creates their own unlimited plans, it is less likely they will get rid of it, if their is still competition, but who knows!
